Due to a new state law under the Youth Employment Standards Act, library volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Volunteers ages 14–17 are required to have a valid Michigan work permit.

Allegan District Library offers a range of volunteer opportunities for teens 14 and older. Volunteers play a vital role in the success of our library. We depend on you to help us maintain and expand the welcoming experience we want to bring to our patrons. Whether you need to collect volunteer hours for school or just want to be more involved in your community, we’d be grateful for your time.

Typical volunteer duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Program set-up and take-down
  • Light cleaning and organizing
  • Prepping for programs
  • Helping with promotional material (making craft samples, taking photos)

Requirements to Volunteer:

  1. Obtain a valid Michigan work permit by completing the Michigan Youth Employment Permit Application.
  2. Complete the Teen Volunteer Application.

Any questions can be directed to our Youth Services Librarian, Kaitlin McLaughlin.
